Concept of ZADO JUKU

Hou-Gou-Juu-Don-To

  Kuushu(Karate) Bunen-ryu "ZADO" is not a sport budo but real one from Go-
Ju-ryu Karate.

　

  " Hou-Gou-Juu-Don-To. Mi-Zui-Ji-Ou-Hen. [法剛柔呑吐　身随時応変]"---"
Everything including myself breathes 'Gou': being hard and 'Juu': being soft,
out and in. And I can move my body much faster and change the condition
quickly matching my opponent's movement." ---　'Go-ju'-ryu school of karate
was named after that saying.

　

  For example, if I fight in 'Juu' against 'Gou', and in 'Gou' to 'Juu', I can change
my tactics depending on my opponent's action whenever I need to do.

  Growing the concept, in self-defense karate of ZADO JUKU, I can control the
opponent with take-downs from standing techniques of 'Gou' or 'Juu'.

  'Gou' is techniques with kicks, punches and the defense.

  'Juu' is ones with pre-tricks, joint-locks, throws and so on.

Self-defense is Budo

　

　ZADO JUKU takes itself for Self-defense Karate.

For example, letter "BU(武)" of "Bu-do(武道)" or "BU-SHI-DO(武士道)" consists
of parts "STOP(止)" and "SWORD(戈：hoko)" that means to "stop sword" in
Chinese character.

　Therefore, "ZADO JUKU" has article "Kuu-shu Bunen-ryu(空手武然流)". "
BUNEN(武然)" means "as BU is".

"Kuu-shu nite kitari, kuu-shu nite kaeru."---KUUSHU(空手)

 Although "空手" also can be read "KARATE" it has the other reading "KUUSHU"
which means "(with) nothing in hands".

  Zen Saying "Kuu-shu nite kitari, kuu-shu nite kaeru." tells us that everyone
comes to this world with nothing in his hands and goes back also without
anything in them. Real Budo-ka needs only moderate money and renown.

Differences between ZADO and Sport Budo

　

  As you already know, ZADO is budo. That is, the fight is different from
matches of sports. I fight for life, at the risk of my life, all of the time. We do
not know when, where, and how the moment to fight is coming, and who
against, either. We have no protectors, no judges and even no rules.

 

GOU剛, JUU柔 and GOSHIN護身(SELF-DEFENSE)

　

  Yes. So, ZADO let learn necessity for GOU, JUU and GOSHIN without any bias
to get over the wall of rules and systems of other kinds of Budo.

  No words of "I don't care of fighting on the ground. I'm a KARATE-KA!" or "
Don't kick me because I learned JUDO!" are accepted in the world of ZADO
which is real Budo.

Spirit of BUSHIDO

　

  ZADO JUKU respects BUSHIDO spirit which has been the soul of Japanese. Of
course I'm afraid that it might be impossible to make the whole BUSHIDO
completely match the present society, Japan and the world. But I am positive
that the spirit must go with today's world. Especially, it must show me
something which I needs as a Budo-ka. And I believe a Budo-ka must be a
samurai.

　

  Among the elements of BUSHIDO, "GI" is the most important aptitude which
a samurai must has at the bottom of the heart. And "GI" means rectitude,
justice or righteousness which do not need any logic. In addition, it is
supported by three posts: "YUU", "CHI" and "JIN". "YUU" is courage or valor, "
CHI" is intellect, and "JIN" is benevolence or the feeling of distress.

Fair play in fight

　

 Finally, I take "fair play in fight" Inazo NItobe wrote in his book " BUSHIDO.
The soul of Japan " for "fair play in killing" because in those days, fight by
samurai was done with swords mainly like katana.

　

  And that saying might vividly show the conception for Self-defense of 'Kushu
Bunen-ryu ZADO' <See "2.Training Contents">
